Thank you for taking the time to visit St Jonah Orthodox Christian Church’s website, and we certainly hope you will find what you are looking for here! The Orthodox Faith is a bottomless treasure chest - only a small portion of which can be experienced online. We are committed to share with you the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ here in Alpine, TX.
The Orthodox Church is the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church professed in the Nicene Creed, which guards the “faith once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 3). While such a statement can indeed be received as an arrogant one, we are the Church by grace, not by triumph or merit, and seek only to share the fullness of the Gospel with all who will hear it.
The Orthodox Church is not a place to fight the culture wars, nor is it a place to escape from society. It is a place where, by the grace of God, we might participate in the very being of God through His Son Jesus Christ, and "work out [our] own salvation with fear and trembling" (Phil. 2:12) in the Word of the Cross, which is "folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God" (I Cor 1:18). In return, we carry the Word of the Cross, Christ Jesus, to the ends of the earth and to all who have ears to hear.
While reading will certainly help, as one’s faith can always be deepened by searching the Scriptures and studying the writings of the faithful, we hope you won't stop there. Just as you don't learn to swim by reading about it, but rather by getting in the water, we invite you to dive in - Come and See!
